AMD is facing the RTX 4080 – and it might win

The RTX 4090 is the most significant generational leap we’ve seen from Nvidia, crushing the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti at a price to match. Ahead of launch, most of us expected AMD to tip that leap, but it won’t. Instead, the new RX 7900 series will directly compete with the RTX 4080.

Frank Azor, AMD’s Chief Gaming Solutions and Marketing Architect, confirmed this during RDNA 3 Revealed in Las Vegas. Frank said that the new Radeon RX 7900 XTX was designed to compete with the RTX 4080 and the “main reason” there were no Nvidia GeForce RTX series GPUs in the graphics for comparison is because they didn’t have any RTX 4080 benchmark numbers.
